Failure
can lead to success by teaching important lessons that help us avoid repeating
mistakes in the future. It is true that people make mistakes every day and it’s
human to do so. We can learn a lot from our mistakes and become stronger from
the experience. The US
Constitution came into being as a result of the failure of the Articles of
Confederation. Google learned a
lot from their own mistakes but also the mistakes of their competitors. Robert
Johnson founded a job placement agency after being laid off from his job. Mistakes can be the springboard to
success.
The
Articles of Confederation were a loose attempt to bind the 13 colonies and
strengthen their position as a country after the American Revolution. The weakness of this document was soon
realized and the need for a stronger bond was necessitated. While each state
was to have its own independence, a central body to bind the states and the
economy. It was apparent that the central government would lead the states and
could raise taxes, install a national court system and control foreign policy.
By studying failures the US became a true revolutionary democracy.
Another
good example is Google. They
studied their competitors’ struggles and came up with better technological
solution to the same problems.
Google has been expanding their brand since the beginning. They have
developed a better business model than many other now defunct companies. For
example, start-ups like YouTube and Blogger eventually were acquired and
further developed by Google. Google’s research and development took these
products one step further. Since failure is a good teacher, intelligent
companies like Google look for failure everywhere, even in rivals, to learn and
evolve.
Finally,
Robert Johnson founded a job placement agency based on difficulties finding a
new job after getting laid off. He spent countless months looking for a job. He
used the newspaper and his city’s job placement center to explore the job
market and sent out hundreds of resumes. He studied his failure to find work
and found that the problem lay with the system and not with him. He started a
company to help others in that same situation.
Failure
is often seen as embarrassing. People try to hit their weaknesses. However, if you or society take
responsibility for failure and study it, history shows that failure leads to
success for everyone. (395 words)
